Peigi MacVicar

Gaelic Schools Poetry Co-ordinator
I am an islander from Skye, with family connections to North Uist (and Edinburgh), living in Glasgow. I recently completed my MLitt at Glasgow University called ‘Modernities: Literature, Theory, Culture’ after studying Gaelic and English Literature at undergraduate level.
As well as at the SPL, I work part-time in Uist teaching Gaelic songs in the primary schools. I’ve enjoyed teaching Gaelic in different capacities, from university language classes to teaching school children through song and play. I’m also a board member of the Gaelic Books Council.
I care about young people engaging with Gaelic poetry, between the canon, community and contemporary.
When not at work: Ideally up a hill or by the sea, or at a gig.
Favourite poets: Aonghas Lachlainn Bhig / Angus MacLellan, Somhairle MacGill-Eain / Sorley MacLean, Anna Frater, Jackie Kay, Colin Herd, Cia Rinne

Sprèidh air mòintich, òr air chlachan” (Iain Mac Fhearchair / John MacCodrum)
