The Scottish spoken word scene has exploded, reaching a level of popularity last seen in the late 1970s. Be the First to Like This: New Scottish Poetry is the first attempt to capture the spirit of a diverse scene where every poet is their own movement.
The collection features forty poets, mostly under-forty who have made Scotland their home. It’s a survey, a yearbook, a celebration and a promise of things to come.
“This anthology of contemporary Scottish poems brilliantly showcases life in a society which has become a melting pot of cultures, where information is accessible like never before, and almost anyone can share their opinons with little more than a press of a button.
Are we fulfilled?
How is art changing to fit and grow with the way we consume media?
Is our gifted free speech powerless against the censorship of mass media outlets?
Exploring all facets of life, this collection is both an exploration and a result of our ever-expanding modernity. A truly funny, moving and insightful read.”
