Online guide to Scottish Poets

Welcome to our online guide to Scottish poets. Please also consult the online catalogue to explore our physical collections.

If you have an entry in the guide which needs to be updated, please email the changes required to reception@spl.org.uk with online poet update in the subject line.

Poets can be added to the online guide through a nomination process which takes place every two years. A list of criteria that poets must meet to be added to the online guide is available and can also be downloaded.  Nominated poets are considered by a panel which will consist of

  • a publisher or poet
  • someone with knowledge of Scots language or Scottish Gaelic
  • a member of the Scottish Poetry Library.

An open call for nominations has just closed and the nominations will be considered by a panel. The poets selected for the online guide will be announced on 16 December 2025.
