Thor Sørheim was born in Skedsmo, Norway, where he still lives. After studying at the University of Oslo, he worked as a teacher, journalist and information officer. His first poetry collection appeared in 1974; besides poetry, he has written novels and children’s books. In 1986 he was awarded the Olav Dalgards Prize for his long-standing contribution to Norwegian literature as a book reviewer. His most recent collection is Døden på andre planeter ('Death on other planets'), published by Gyldendal in 2010.
In 2005 Sørheim took part in a workshop in Shetland organised by Literature Across Frontiers in partnership with the Scottish Poetry Library. Samples from this workshop may be found in All Points North (Edinburgh: Scottish Poetry Library/The Caseroom Press, 2006).
