Tessa Berring lives in Edinburgh with her two sons, Gil and Freddie. She spent most of her childhood in West Yorkshire, then came to Edinburgh, via Aberdeen, to live with her paternal Grandmother Doris.
She studied sculpture and drawing at Edinburgh College of Art, and has since worked variously, and precariously freelance, while shifting her visual arts practise into a deeper engagement with language and poetry.
She is member of 12, a collective of women writers with links to Scotland, and has continued links to the art college through art writing projects with sculptor Andrea Roe. She is also one half of ‘Usual Shoe’, a micro press of poetry collaborations with Kathrine Sowerby.
More of her work can be found via various journals/small presses. These include Datableedzine, The Scores, The Rialto, Adjacent Pineapple, St. Lucy Books, Tapsalteerie Press, Dancing Girl Press, Zarf Poetry, and Pity-Milk Press.)
Her poetry collection Bitten Hair was published by Blue Diode Press, 2019.
