Originally from Glasgow, Colin McGuire is a poet and performer now based in Edinburgh, where he also works as a teacher of English for speakers of other languages.
McGuire performs in poetry cabarets and slams in Scotland and across the UK. He was a semi-finalist in the BBC Fringe Slam in 2013 and 2018 and won the Shore Poets Quiet Slam in 2014, the Luminate Slam in 2015, and the overall Out:Spoken prize for poetry in 2018. He has published three poetry collections and has written a spoken-word theatre piece, The Wake-Up Call, which has been performed in Edinburgh.
In 2020, McGuire was awarded an Ignite Fellow Awardee by the Scottish Book Trust. His latest poetry collection, Enhanced Fool Disclosure was published by Speculative Books in 2018.
Beside poetry, McGuire is an ESOL teacher and Mindfulness Meditation practitioner. He holds Mindfulness and Expressive Writing Workshops for libraries, schools and charities and, with Open Book Charity, acts as Lead Reader and Creative Writing Workshop facilitator in communities and prisons across Scotland.
