Maxine Rose Munro is a poet, writing in both English and Shetlandic Scots. Born on the Shetland Islands in a tiny place called Leebitton, notable only for being where one catches the ferry to see the Mousa Broch. After spending the first eighteen years of her life on the islands, the culture shock experienced on eventually seeing the wider world rocked her to the core. This is a feeling which has never really left and has driven much, if not all, of her poetry.
Her poetry has been widely published both in print and online, exhibited at Stanza Poetry Festival, shortlisted for the SMHAFF Awards, and nominated for both the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net. She runs several poetry feedback programmes, including First Steps in Poetry, which runs a few times a year and offers beginner poets free feedback and support.
