Matthew Fitt, a poet and novelist in Scots, was born in Dundee in 1968. While he has regularly published poetry since his debut pamphlet Pure Radge (Akros,1996), his best known work remains his debut novel, Scots cyberpunk dystopia But n Ben A-Go-Go (Luath, 2000).
Between 2002 and 2011, Fitt was National Scots Language Development Officer, and in 2002 co-founded Itchy Coo, a Scots language imprint for children. In addition to his original work, Fitt has been a prolific translator into Scots, including several volumes of Asterix beginning with Asterix and the Pechts in 2013, as well as work by Roald Dahl and children’s author J.K.Rowling. In May 2020, Fitt received the Scottish Book Trust’s outstanding contribution to children’s books award, and in December 2021 he became founding editor of Scots-language magazine Eemis Stane.
