Delores Gauntlett was born in St. Ann, Jamaica in 1949. Her first full collection Freeing Her Hands To Clap while a manuscript-in-progress, was awarded a National Book Development Council Special Commendation prize and was also a finalist in the Brittingham Poetry series competition. She received the 1999 David Hough Literary Award from The Caribbean Writer and her poems have won prizes in The Observer Literary Arts annual competitions. Her work has appeared in anthologies, magazines and newspapers, including: The Observer Literary Arts, The Caribbean Writer, The Gleaner, London Poetry Society’s Poetry News, Kunapipi, Hampden-Sydney Review, Magma, German-Bayswater Textbook, The Jamaica Journal, Bearing Witness, Anchor Books.
She still lives in Jamaica.
