Dawn Wood was born in Omagh, County Tyrone, moved to Dundee in 1986 and now lives in Perthshire. Her academic background is in science education; she trained as a microbiologist at Queen’s University, Belfast and completed her doctorate in 2008 on the husbandry of nature, as poetry and as science. She is now a part-time tutor in poetics/ creative writing at the University of Dundee and part-time tutor in the School of Medicine (Postgraduate Medical Education).
As an artist Dawn works in oils, and as poet she has six collections, mostly published by Templar Poetry. The first, Quarry, was shortlisted for the Aldeburgh First Collection Prize in 2008, and the most recent, As Mind Imagines World was published in 2018.
