Anne MacLeod

Anne MacLeod was born in Aberfeldy and brought up in Inverness with her younger sister, the writer Ali Smith. She studied medicine at the Aberdeen University before working as a dermatologist, settings that informed he later literary work. Inspired by Ian Abbot reading his poetry at Eden Court in Inverness, she began writing in earnest.

She published two collections of poetry, Standing by Thistles (Scottish Cultural Press, 1997), shortlisted for a Saltire First Book Award, and Just the Caravaggio (Poetry Salzburg, 1999). Her first novel The Dark Ship was published in 2001 by Eleven/Nine, nominated for Saltire and Impac awards and her second, The Blue Moon Book by Luath in 2004.
