Alice C. MacDonell of Keppoch wrote romantic poetry on Scottish history (her popular poem about Culloden was inspired by her direct descent from a hero of the battlefield) and on the native area of her own clan. She was an early contributor to periodicals; ‘The Weaving of the Tartan’ appeared in Celtic Monthly in 1894. Her books Lays of the Heather and Songs of the Mountain and the Burn were published in 1896 and 1912 respectively. She was the Bardess of the Clan Donald Society.
