Brian Holton

The derk thraw o a bull saumon
Lowpin abune the skinklin watter
Hairst-time sun skimmerin bricht
Aneath the auld brig o rose-reid stane
            At Ettrick Watter’s meetin
            Tweed’s waters pirlin
            Lapperin awa ti the sea
Frae watter an stane an sun’s fire
We cam, a crawl o birselt things
Ti reinge ootowre the turnin yird
Creepin about aa its braw growth
            Oobits happit wi glory
            Bummin fell roarie
In the gairden we wir gien
Ablow the soss o the seemin warld
The thrawn thorterie o this an that
It’s time at muves our fozie hairts
Our fozie hairts at muves in time
            Eagle on the lochan shore
Bull an saumon, stag an boar
            Ayebydin in the stane
