Reelig

Ian A. Olson

I do not know
Who sleeps here
Beneath this mound before me
Under the skies of Reelig
Below the Fraser pines

But a Laird of Reelig’s daughter said
There are three that come
Without asking
There are three that come
Uninvited
Fear, jealousy and love

And I do not know – if any
Which of these
My sleeper received
Which of these
She duly sheltered
Which of these
She entertained

I only know
That she lies now
Careless of all calling
Deep in the earth beneath me
Close folded in the arms
Of her last
Unwanted guest.
