Christine De Luca

Christine De Luca is a Shetland writer now living in Edinburgh. She writes her poetry in English and in Shetlandic, her mother tongue. She was appointed Edinburgh’s Makar for 2014-2017.

Robert Alan Jamieson

{ Poet }

Robert Alan Jamieson is a Shetland-born poet and novelist who writes in, and translates into, his native Shetlandic.

Jim Mainland

{ Poet }

Jim Mainland has two poetry collections published by Hansel Press. While most of his work is in English, he has translated a wide variety of poetry into vivid Shetland dialect.

John Peterson

{ Poet }

Shetland poet and photographer John (Jack) Peterson was strongly influenced by his experience of the First World War, particularly the Battle of the Somme;  the conflict continued to haunt his later writings.

T. A. Robertson

{ Poet }

Vagaland, along with William J. Tait, is the most significant of the Shetland poets of the mid-20th century.

Lise Sinclair

{ Poet }

A native of Fair Isle, Lise Sinclair was a poet, musician and singer. Her work was included in various publications, and she set several Shetland poets to music before her early death in 2013.

William J. Tait

{ Poet }

Bill Tait was born in the Shetland island of Yell. He studied at Edinburgh University and taught English in Shetland, England and Dundee. His collected poems, published in 1980, were the culmination of 40 years of writing.

Christie Williamson

{ Poet }

Christie Williamson is a Shetland-born poet and editor now living in Glasgow.
