On Thursday, October 12, Shetlandic poet Christie Williamson joined an in-person and virtual panel discussion on the theme of the influence of American Beatnik poets and poetry on the post-war Scottish poetry landscape.
The SPL is hosted a ModPo online poetry course produced by the University of Pennsylvania’s Kelly Writer’s House. “ModPo” is shorthand for Modern and Contemporary Poetry. Some 70,000 people in over 180 countries are currently enrolled in The Kelly Writers House’s ModPo open courses. Each year, one of these webcasts is delivered outwith Philadelphia. This year, the focus is on Scotland.
The following day, The Kelly Writers House recorded a special Scottish episode of PoemTalk (about two poems by Veronica Forrest-Thomson). They then filmed collaborative close readings of poems by Peter Manson and Iain Morrison at the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh.
