This workshop will introduce writers to the delights of prose poetry, a growing and exciting form that is gaining popularity amongst writers and is at the cutting edge of contemporary writing. It will be suitable for people new to the form, or more experienced writers. Anne Caldwell, who has just co-edited ‘The Valley Press Anthology of Prose Poetry’, (2019) with Oz Hardwick, will explore starting points for writing prose poems, examples from around the world and how to edit and shape your work. Although difficult to define, she sees a prose poem as borrowing elements from both poetry and short fiction and has been running workshops for writers across the country to introduce them to the delights of writing in this way.
Anne Caldwell is a widely anthologised poet and freelance writer. Her latest collection is ‘Painting the Spiral Staircase’ (Cinnamon). Her prose poetry was shortlisted for the Rialto Pamphlet Competition in 2017, as well as being published in a number of anthologies internationally. She was awarded funding to set up www.prose-poetry.uk. which aims to raise the profile of this writing form. Anne is a lecturer in creative writing for the Open University and also works as a workshop leader.
