This round table discussion will look at the life and creative work of the famous Scottish poet Robert Fergusson whose poetry was highly praised by Robert Burns and played an important role in the history of national Scottish poetry written. He wrote about Edinburgh life in a traditional Scottish stanza ‘Standard Habby’. Addressing Edinburgh in Scots as “Auld Reekie” in his poems he stressed that he glorified a city of great Scottish history and national tradition.
The participants of the Round Table are: Professor David W. Purdie, who will speak about the connection between two great Scottish poets, Fergusson and Burns; Dr Victoria Grigorieva, who will look at Edinburgh’s identity praised in Fergusson’s poems, and Colin Donati, a Scottish poet, who will provide a modern poet vision of Fergusson’s work.
