What’s next for poetry publishing in and for Scotland?
Join this an informal collogue at the Scottish Poetry Library to discuss this passionate but often overlooked sector.
Keynote Speaker: Sophie O’Neill of Inpress Books
Sophie O’Neill is the managing director of both the Poetry Book Society and Inpress Books, an ACE-funded sales and marketing company who work with over 50 small presses, including many poetry publishers. She was previously head of sales at Canongate Books and a key-account manager at Headline Publishing, giving her an incredible perspective on many different sides of the industry.
What are the aims of the collogue?
The aims of the collogue are:
– to identify issues and opportunities shared by Scottish poetry publishers;
– to create and strengthen relationships between publishers;
– to agree and explore opportunities for collaborative working;
– to define and develop professionalism within our sector.
Who can attend the collogue?
Anyone with an interest in poetry publishing is welcome to attend.
Can you share this invitation with others?
Absolutely. Please forward this to anyone you think would be interested.
How did the collogue come about?
The idea for this event came out of informal discussions among the poetry publishers who now form the organising group. We feel the poetry publishing sector has much to talk about and that there is scope for useful networking that is not currently addressed by the existing literature and publishing conferences, where the broader focus means issues specific to poetry publishing may be sidelined.
Who are the organising group?
– Duncan Lockerbie (Tapsalteerie)
– Helena Nelson (HappenStance)
– James T. Harding (Stewed Rhubarb)
– Sheila Wakefield (Red Squirrel)
What will the format of the day be?
The organising group will finalise the content and running order of the day based on priorities identified by delegates on their sign-up forms. (You should receive a link to this when you book your ticket.) There will be a few short addresses from publishers and/or non-publishers with useful perspectives but the main content of the day will be small discussion groups organised by topic, resulting in agreed action points.
