Mindfulness & Mindful Writing- Four Week Course at The Scottish Poetry Library

Saturday 8 February 2020
  • This event has passed.
Event

A series of Mindfulness Meditation and Mindful Writing days are being held at the Scottish Poetry Library, led by award-winning poet and Mindfulness teacher Colin McGuire (who is trained in Mindfulness Based Living – MBLC – by the Mindfulness Association). The course takes place over 4 Saturdays in February: the 8th, the 15th, 22nd and 29th.

The Mindful-Writing course combines an introduction to Mindfulness Meditation practices combined with expressive and creative writing exercises. The course is open to all levels of mindfulness and writing experience.

Each meditation practice is paired with specific expressive writing activity. Participants will also be encouraged to reflect and journal on their meditation experience after each practice.  You do not need to share anything you write; however, you can share if you are comfortable. We will also have a shared discussion after each practice (feel free to share or listen, whichever is most comfortable for you) and writing exercises too.

Each session lasts two hours, including a short break for tea and coffee. Please bring a writing journal, pens and pencils, and wear something you are comfortable meditating in.

Colin McGuire has trained as a Mindfulness Teacher with the Mindfulness Association. He has taught Mindfulness workshops in high Schools, libraries, and community based organisations in throughout Edinburgh and Glasgow. He is currently completing his final year of an M.Sc. Studies in Mindfulness at the University of Aberdeen. He has published three pamphlets and one collection; his most recently collection is Enhanced Fool Disclosure with Glasgow-based independent publisher Speculative Books. He is in numerous anthologies and has worked published in a variety of literary journals and magazines. In 2018, he won the Out: Spoken Prize for ‘Film Poetry’ and ‘Best Poem’ in London. His poetry was recently shortlisted for the 2019 ‘I’ll Show You Mine’ competition. He is also on the Scottish Book Trust Live Literature Database, which allows community-based organisations to request him to run works in for their organisation.
