The Flood by Esther Swift (harp and vocalist) featuring film by Tom Swift.
Originally for harp and string quartet, The Flood was co -commissioned by Enterprise Music Scotland and Music in Peebles and premiered in September 2018. Composed by Esther Swift with film by Tom Swift, the piece connected with the local community of Peebles by exploring environmental themes and the impact of the flooding there in 2015/16.
“I’ve always been really inspired by nature in my compositions and try to interweave natural patterns and sounds into my minimalist, folk, jazz, and dance-inspired writing style. This project gave me the chance to delve into the complex and relentless sound world of water using string quartet, voice, and harp.”
National Chamber Music Day 2019 will see a reworking of the piece for solo harp, voice and film.
