Please note: Although you do not have to be a regular member of the BAME Writers Group to attend, we do ask that only writers who identify as persons of colour book a ticket. Thank you for your understanding.
The BAME Writers Group at SPL is excited to offer the second of our *free* Visiting Writer Workshop series: a creative writing workshop with the magnificent Nadine Aisha Jassat!
Join Nadine Aisha Jassat for a 2 hour writing workshop at the Scottish Poetry Library! The session will run from 2pm – 4pm on 13th July, 2019. Nadine’s work often explores how the personal and political merge and intersect, as well as navigates political change with emotional resonance. In this workshop, Nadine explores some of her favourite methods for exploring this in your own work, whether poetry, fiction, or non-fiction and essays.
*This poetry workshop is open to BAME writers who currently live in Scotland. Thanks to support from the The Royal Society of Literature, we can offer travel stipends to those who reside outside of Edinburgh, and who would otherwise not be able to attend this event. Please first book a ticket, and then contact Alycia Pirmohamed at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.*

In 2017, Nadine was named as one of ’30 Inspiring Women Under 30′ by YWCA Scotland, and in 2018 she was awarded a prestigious New Writers Award from the Scottish Book Trust, and shortlisted for the Edwin Morgan Poetry Award. Her debut poetry collection Let Me Tell You This was published by 404 Ink in March 2019 to great praise, described as a ‘powerful, punchy debut collection’ by Makar Jackie Kay, ‘An important collection… incisive, delicate and precise as it interrogates the trauma of systematic and everyday racism’ by Nikesh Shukla (The One Who Wrote Destiny), and readers are urged by Sabeena Akhtar (Cut from the Same Cloth): ‘If you read one poetry collection this year, let it be this’.
