{ Post }

{ Post }

Image: John Hegley by Jackie di Stefano

If there is one thing you can’t fault John Hegley for, it’s his titles. His collections have been variously called Visions of the Bone Idol (Poems about Dogs and Glasses), The Brother-in-Law and Other Animals, Glad to Wear Glasses (Glad to Have Ears), Beyond our Kennel, My Dog is a Carrot, Uncut Confetti, and, out this month, his latest, Peace, Love & Potatoes.

Gifted: The Edinburgh Book Sculptures on Tour 2012 - 31.7.2012

{ Post }

Rarely a day goes by at the Scottish Poetry Library without an inquiry about the mysterious book sculptures that were discovered in various Edinburgh venues throughout 2011. The first and the last of the sculptures were discovered in the SPL. The only question asked more often than ‘Do you know the identity of the sculptor?’ is ‘When will an exhibition of sculptures take place?’ The waiting is over.

Laird Byron - 19.4.2012

Lord Byron by hummingcrow, under a Creative Commons licence

How Scottish was Byron? Blessed with a baronetcy and educated at Dulwich, Harrow and Cambridge, he might, in other circumstances, be seen as a pillar of the English establishment. He only spent 10 years of his life in Scotland, his first decade more or less, and once he left, he never returned, at least not in person; his imagination is another matter.

Tam O’Shanter – Scotland’s Favourite? - 23.1.2012

{ Post }

If ‘Tam O’Shanter’ is Scots’ favourite Burns poem, why?
