Irene Howat

Irene was born in Ayr in 1947 and, apart from four years studying in Glasgow, lived there until she married Angus in 1971 before moving to Alves in Moray. Angus was a librarian and Irene was a full-time mother. In 1976 they were on the move again, to Elgin at first and then to Edinburgh nine years later. By the time they left the capital, Angus was a minister and Irene was a poet, writer and editor. Angus’s ministry took them to Campbeltown and then Tarbert Loch Fyne. An initial retirement in 2009 was spent in Coylton, Ayrshire and a subsequent retirement in 2022 found Irene and Angus settling down under the shadow of the Campsies in Lennoxtown.
