French poetry showcase
18 May 2026

Scottish Poetry Library staff have been dusting off their high school French for the last few months, thanks to French intern, Lilie Macioci, who studies Information and Communication at Aix-Marseille Université. As well as some tasty croissants, Lilie left the library with the gift of a temporary in-house exhibition: French Poetry: A history of words.
If visiting in the next few weeks, you can follow the display trail around the lending floor, from the 13th century, when the word poëme first appears in French, to the modern slam poetry of acts likeGrand Corps Malade, aka Fabien Marsaud.
If you can’t make it to the library, you have carte blanche to read Lilie’s work here, including a handy bibliography of key French poetry books and anthologies.
Bonne lecture!
