A new tail grows…celebrating the spirit and talent of Leith, The Darting Salamander-the first LeithWritings anthology- was published, delivered, launched and welcomed in true Leith style on the 2nd of November 2021. The book featured new voices alongside more established writers such as poet Christine De Luca. You can watch Christine reading her poem Leith Swings here.
The success of the book now promises a succession of annual anthologies to be published on this date – marking the amalgamation of Leith and Edinburgh. Covid delayed the publication of the first edition originally planned to coincide with the centenary of the Edinburgh Boundaries and Tram Extension Bill on the 2nd November 1920.
Last year, Scottish Poetry Library board co-chair Gordon Munro was part of the project. We’re continuing to support the LeithWritings team in 2022 by sharing their call out for submissions. Local writers, poets, storytellers and artists are invited to submit their work for the 2nd edition.
The theme for 2022 is Leith links… More details on how to submit are here.
