Thanks – Scottish Nature Poem for COP26

1 October 2021

Blog

The SPL is thrilled by the number of lines submitted – one thousand in all –  to the Makar’s collaborative People’s Poem. The window for submissions is now closed. Kathleen Jamie is working hard to compose the final work from the unique poetic submissions, which arrived from postcodes all over the Scotland, in English, Scottish Gaelic and Scots. The work will soon be realised as a film by Alastair Cook, as well as published on our website.

Kathleen Jamie will continue to rely on your collaboration and support throughout her three-year term. Please consider signing up to our newsletter, which will include a Monthly Makar message, bringing you the latest news on Kathleen’s projects, thoughts and events, as well as how you can get involved. You’ll also receive updates from Scottish Poetry Library too.

Thank you for all your support and creative input for the Makar’s programme, and we hope you remain engaged with Kathleen’s future projects.

The Courier’s Michael Alexander had a rich conversation with the Makar about her ambitions and about the #PeoplesPoem. “Becoming Makar is the biggest honour that Scotland’s able to bestow, so of course it’s special,” Kathleen told Michael.  You can enjoy it here.
