It’s that time of year again when the latest issue of our newsletter the Poetry Reader appears. Our cover story looks at the Library’s growing involvement in ‘bibliotherapy’, which we define as any literary activity that helps people to assume more control of their health and wellbeing. We speak to Colin McGuire, who is running poetry and mindfulness classes at the SPL, and look at our involvement in Creative Words for Wellbeing in Scotland, a new project using reading and writing to improve the health of the nation.
Copies of the Poetry Reader can be picked up in person from the Library or, if you are a member of our Friends scheme, you will be sent a copy. You can join the SPL’s Friends scheme here.
Other articles in the latest issue include:
- Edwin Morgan. We celebrate his centenary and remind readers that the Edwin Morgan Poetry Award has a deadline of March 2. Get those entries in!
- Best Scottish Poems 2020. We speak to BSP 2020’s editor Roseanne Watt about choosing the country’s best poems published last year.
- Meet the new Co-chair. Gordon Munro discusses his hopes for the SPL and his love of poetry.
- Events. A preview of our spring events programme.
And much, much more. What’s more it’s FREE. Available, as they say, while stocks last.
