The latest issue of the Poetry Reader has arrived. Journalist and broadcaster James Naughtie is the cover star of number 24, our Winter 2019 issue. Naughtie, as regular readers of the blog will know, is the editor of our Best of the Best Scottish Poems online anthology, which we published in December. To mark the 15th anniversary of Best Scottish Poems, we asked Naughtie to read all the separate editions of Best Scottish Poems, some 280 poems, from which he chose 20. You can see his selection here.
Copies of the Poetry Reader can be picked up in person from the Library or, if you are a member of our Friends scheme, you will be sent a copy. You can join the SPL’s Friends scheme here.
Other articles in the latest issue include:
- Remembering Scotland’s war poets. Read about the part the Library played in erecting a memorial to Scotland’s war poets in Makar’s Court.
- Our new website. We’ve revamped and relaunched our website. Find out how it can enhance your experience of using the Library’s services.
- Tony Harrison. How we brought the great poet to Edinburgh ahead of a season of his rarely seen film-poems.
- Events. A preview of our spring events programme.
And much, much more. What’s more it’s FREE. Available, as they say, while stocks last.
P.S. Don’t forget that the Library is teaming up with literary festival Aye, Write! to present a Best of the Best Scottish Poems event on Saturday, 30 March in Glasgow, 8pm (£10). More details here.
