SYMPOETRY brings together world-class poets and literary thinkers to address a question of vital importance to the state of poetry today, and you are an essential voice in that conversation.

This year’s question is, Poetry: Who’s speaking?  Who’s listening?

One ticket buys you a whole poetry-packed weekend of readings, debate and conversation, as well as delicious food and drink.

Full Programme

A weekend of poetry events that consider a particular question of relevance to the state of poetry today, with good food, good drink and good conversation.  This year we’ll be asking: Poetry – Who’s speaking?  Who’s listening?

 

Friday:

18.00: Welcome by Robyn Marsack, Director of the Scottish Poetry Library (SPL)

18.30-19.30: Readings by Thomas Lux and Fiona Sampson (SPL)

19.30: Drinks Reception (SPL)

20:30: Dinner for speakers and holders of Friday evening dinner tickets (venue tbc)

 

Saturday:

10.00-10.30: Continental breakfast (SPL)

10.30-11.30: ‘In the room the women come and go’, Women’s Voices in Poetry
Panel chaired by Robyn Marsack, featuring: Sasha Dugdale, Fiona Sampson, Dorothy McMillan (SPL)

12.00-13.00: ‘How oft, when thou, my music, music play'st’
Don Paterson on the poetry of music and the music of poetry (SPL)

13.00-15.00: Lunch/Social: Polish Buffet and work from Translation Workshop (SPL)

15.00-16.00: ‘There is no happiness like mine. / I have been eating poetry.’
Tim Dee on Poetry Please & what’s popular in poetry with audience questions/contributions (SPL)

16.30-18.00: SRB Debate – Poetry: Who’s Speaking?  Who’s Listening?  (SPL)
Chair: Alan Taylor (Scottish Review of Books), featuring Thomas Lux, Maciej Woźniak, Tim Dee, Sasha Dugdale, Fiona Sampson, Alan Gillis (SPL)

Sunday:

11.00-12.00: Closing readings by Sasha Dugdale and Maciej Woźniak (SPL)

12.00-12.30: Thank you and closing remarks by Robyn Marsack, SPL Director with audience contributions (SPL)
