The Thursday Post: Commonwealth Poets United Poetry Postcards

16 July 2014

Blog

Twelve poets, twelve visits, seven Commonwealth nations. Now the postcards are here!

Over the past few months, a group of poets from across the Commonwealth have experienced, and shared their experiences of, cultural exchange in the form of poetry. As a part of the project Commonwealth Poets United – a collaboration between the SPL, the British Council and the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme – six Scotland-based poets were sent to six Commonwealth nations: Canada, India, Jamaica, New Zealand, Nigeria and South Africa. In turn, six poets from each of these nations have spent time with their poetic partners here in Scotland, doing readings, visiting schools, and taking part in a variety of events, forging collaborations and friendships.

Illustrated by Iain McIntosh, these twelve postcards reflect something of each poet's experience of home and away, and form part of a conversation which hopefully will live on beyond the project's end-date.

The postcards will be available at the SPL from next week. Come on in and have a look! We hope you enjoy them.

Visit the Commonwealth Poets united blog and make sure you don't miss the events during the Games.
