The poet

Víctor Terán is the most personal poet of the Zapotec Isthmus of Oaxaca, México. He was born in Juchitán de Zaragoza in 1958. His work has been published extensively in magazines and anthologies throughout Mexico and the world. A three-time recipient of the National Fellowship for Writers of Indigenous Languages, his most recent book isThe Spines of Love. Terán is an active promoter of contemporary Zapotec literature. 

The translator

David Shook is a poet and translator based in Los Angeles. A graduate of the University of Oxford, he edits the online broadside Molossus. He has appeared in the anthologies Initiate: An Oxford Anthology of New Writing (Blackwell) and Oxford Poets 2010 (Carcanet).
