Full Biography

Poet and artist, Stan Bell was born in and lives in Glasgow. After a period of working in industry he studied at Glasgow School of Art where he subsequently taught. He has family connections on the Isle of Lewis where he has been a frequent visitor and has become increasingly interested in the organic aesthetic of the Western Isles and the poetic implications of being on the extreme North-western edge of Europe.

An interest in the possible relationship of word and image has led him to being involved in a number of projects involving music, dance, poetry and painting. He gives readings at festivals and other cultural events.

Publications include The First President, a monograph on the political significance of R.B. Cunninghame Graham. His poetry has appeared in a number of publications including Coincidence, Circles and Lines, Skinklin Star, La Fabrique, and Le Journal des Poètes. His collection In Search of Stansylvania: Forty Two Poems appeared in 2006.

His poem 'Art World Signals' was selected by Janice Galloway to be published on the SPL website as one of the Best Scottish Poems 2006.
