Summary

It was of course the stories featuring the immortal Sherlock Holmes that made his creator, Edinburgh-born Sir Arthur Conan Doyle famous, but Doyle also wrote historical novels, was a war correspondent, and produced three books of poetry (Songs of the Road was published in 1911, The Guards Came Through in 1919).
