Full Biography

Larry Butler was born in Illinois, grew up in northern California, and has lived in Glasgow since 1981, where he teaches Tai-Chi, movement and leads improvisation workshops. He co-founded the Poetry Healing Project out of which he founded and developed Survivors’ Poetry Scotland and Lapidus. A few years ago he completed a feasibility study for the Greater Glasgow Health Board on the idea of 'Arts on Prescription', and more recently collected and edited (with storytellers Lesley O'Brien and Allison Galbraith) Move on Up - stories of hope & recovery from addiction. 

His publications include Games Games, a set of illustrated cards with a creative game on each, a chapter in Creative Therapy edited by Sue Jennings, and Beowulf, a verse script for the National Theatre. Poetry collections include Yuga Night with Gerry Loose & Caith Sweeny McGee, Han Shan Everywhere (2006), and Butterfly Bones (2008).
