Kate Clanchy

Kate Clanchy (b. 1965)



Born and brought up in Scotland, the poet Kate Clanchy now lives and works in Oxford, where she was the first Oxford City Poet. 

Full Biography

Kate Clanchy was born in Glasgow in 1965 and educated in Edinburgh and Oxford.  After working for several years as a teacher in London's East End, she moved to Oxford, where she works as a writer and broadcaster and a teacher of creative writing. 
Her first collection, Slattern  (Chatto & Windus, 1995), was published in 1996 and won both the Forward Prize for Best First Collection and the Saltire Prize for Scottish First Book of the Year. The second collection was Samarkand  (Picador, 1999), followed by Newborn  (2004), a collection of poems covering pregnancy, birth and caring for a new baby.

Kate Clanchy was the first City Poet of Oxford, from 2011 to 2013.
