Andrew Sclater has held New Writers Awards from the Scottish Book Trust (SBT) and New Writing North. In 2011, he was shortlisted for the Picador Poetry Prize. His family originate in Orkney and Galloway, and he now lives in Edinburgh. He has worked as a gardener and garden advisor, taught courses on landscape, culture and art, and edited the correspondence of Charles Darwin. He is the co-founder of the National Botanic Garden of Wales, an actor, and a drystane-dyker.
His work has appeared in The Dark Horse, Magma, New Writing Scotland, The Istanbul Review and Shearsman. He is a founder and co-editor of Butcher's Dog poetry magazine.
