Andrew Sclater has held New Writers Awards from the Scottish Book Trust (SBT) and New Writing North. In 2011, he was shortlisted for the Picador Poetry Prize. His family originate in Orkney and Galloway, and he now lives in Edinburgh. He has worked as a gardener and garden advisor, taught courses on landscape, culture and art, and edited the correspondence of Charles Darwin. He is the co-founder of the National Botanic Garden of Wales, an actor, and a drystane-dyker.
His work has appeared in Best Scottish Poems, The Dark Horse, Magma, New Writing Scotland, The Istanbul Review, Poetry Review, The Scotsman, and Shearsman. He is a founder of Butcher's Dog poetry magazine.
