The gift
Sometimes the recompense arrives
so far ahead of what you'll give
that you will fail to recognise 
the reciprocity, the love

that circles in the universe:
this life a grace advanced, its knack
to meet requital with its cause — 
the offering up, the giving back.

Kona Macphee

Kona Macphee grew up in Australia and now lives in Perthshire, where she works as a freelance writer and media producer, has 'serious fun' as a 'thingwright' and runs the Muse Tuners, a creative mentoring agency.

She has been writing poems since 1997, and received an Eric Gregory Award in 1998. Her first collection, Tails, was published by Bloodaxe in 2004. Her second, Perfect Blue (Bloodaxe, 2010) was awarded the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize for 2010. Her third collection, What Long Miles (Bloodaxe), was the Observer's Poetry Book of the Month for July 2013.
