The Lemon Tree Writers (Aberdeen)

A group established to support writers throughout North East Scotland. Meeting fortnightly to share and discuss new writing from members. the group is interested in all types of writing – fiction, non-fiction, drama and poetry – and organises readings, workshops and retreats. Aberdeen Writers’ Circle (Aberdeen)

Quill (Bathgate)

The School of Poets (Edinburgh)

Founded in 1981 by Tessa Ransford, The School of Poets meets monthly in the Scottish Poetry Library, 5 Crichton's Close, Canongate, Edinburgh EH8 8DT. To join, come along to the Scottish Poetry Library on any meeting night (normally the second Tuesday of each month except August and December). We gather from 6:00 pm onwards and begin the session at 6:30 pm. Each meeting concludes with a read-around in which we all participate. For any new/enquiring members it's our practice to bring 5 or 6 copies of one of your own poems to share with the other members of that evening's group. There is no need to join immediately - you can come for a 'taster' meeting, and we ask visitors to pay £2:00 per meeting. Young Edinburgh Writers / YEW (Edinburgh)

Young Edinburgh Writers is a creative writing group for 13 - 18 year olds who want to develop their writing skills in poetry and prose out of school in a friendly fun environment whilst also meeting others in the city who share that interest. With three of the group having left school, we're now looking for new members. Led by Dorothy Baird, a poet with wide experience of running writing groups, it normally takes place on Thursdays in the Central Library, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh from 4.30pm - 6.30pm. Southside Writers (Edinburgh)

Starting points for new writing -  constructive feedback on works in progress -   experimenting with specific themes and styles over a number of weeks. There may also be opportunities to use various city locations and institutions for inspiration,  and to read in public.  New members - of any level of experience or confidence -  always welcome, though there may sometimes be a waiting list. St Mungo's Mirrorball (Glasgow)

This is a Glasgow-based network for poets and poetry lovers that organises regular readings from the best local, national and international poets. The Scottish Writers' Centre (Glasgow)

The Scottish Writers' Centre 2012 Programme of Events starts with Ron Butlin's ‘In Process' insights (5 January), and debates & discussions including ‘The End of Books?' with Ewan Morrison (19 January) and the ‘ Gaelic Literature Forum' ( 28th Jan). Presently, all events are free but we do accept donations in our capacity as a charity which is run entirely by volunteers, all of whom are writers. We also welcome you to support the growth and development of the SWC by becoming a Member with our limited special offer first year of membership at £10.00, which allows you one free entry to the SWC 2012 Writing Competition (Closing Date: 12pm, 27 January) and two Members Only events. So, set your creative intentions for 2012 in the most positive way and participate in bringing the vision of a physical writers' centre in Scotland closer to reality in order to provide ALL writers working in Scotland with a centre of excellence for the promotion of reading and writing.
