Stairs and Whispers Anthology Launch - D/deaf and Disabled Poets Write Back

Scottish Poetry Library and Nine Arches Press present the UK’s first major anthology of D/deaf and disabled poets on 27 September. Stairs and Whispers: D/deaf and Disabled Poets Write Back, edited by Sandra Alland, Khairani Barokka and Daniel Sluman. Over a fifth of the poets are Scotland-based.

The event will feature readings, performances and films from contributors including Alison Smith (British Sign Language), Bea Webster (BSL), Claire Cunningham, Donna Williams, Emily Ingram, Gary Austin Quinn (BSL, with Kyra Pollitt and Christine De Luca), Lydia Popowich, Mark Mace Smith, Markie Burnhope, Nuala Watt and Sarah Golightley.

The Scottish launch will include poetry, film and discussion around disabled and D/deaf poetics. Access: captioned films; projected text of poems; BSL interpreting by K. Yvonne Strain and Catherine King; BSL content; step-free access via lifts; gender-neutral accessible toilet; some audio description.
