Brian Johnstone and Trio Verso

Brian Johnstone’s poetry-and-jazz group Trio Verso celebrate their tenth anniversary with a special performance in the Scottish Poetry Library. Bringing an original approach to live poetry, the trio frames spoken word in music that is at times swinging, and at others, haunting. During Trio Verso performances, Johnstone delivers his verse in relation to the sounds created while the musicians play their instruments in response to the poetry. Their jazz grooves and freely improvised soundscapes refocus the ideas behind the 1950s poetry and jazz movement for a contemporary audience.

With special guests jazzman Colin Steele (trumpet) and poet Marjorie Lotfi Gill.
