Clt Alt Del - 'I feel safe, I feel heard. I feel helped'

On Saturday, 24 March, 2pm, the young women of the Youth Community Support Agency's group, Clt Alt Del, will be joined by their tutors, poet Marjorie Gill and singer songwriter Heir of the Cursed, to share work generated in a project supported by the SPL. It's terribly important to support these young women, for the reasons outlined below by Clare McBrien, who is YCSA's Programme Lead. You can order a FREE ticket online here.

The YCSA Get Information Project brings young women together, aged between 16 and 25 and from different ethnic backgrounds, to take part in arts, music and media activities. For the past year they have worked with artists, photographers, poets, film makers, songwriters and media experts to develop new skills, have fun and create a safe, exciting community.  It is a place where young women can come to relax, share their difficulties and support one another; an opportunity to connect with other women from ethnic minority backgrounds; a chance to develop a voice and raise it.

As part of the Project, they worked with the Scottish Poetry Library to explore poetry and how it is relevant to their lives.  They shared stories, learned creative writing techniques and brought characters to life in stories of love, loss, hope and healing. They then worked with Beldina, otherwise knows as singer-songwriter Heir of the Cursed, to explore music and to write songs. They were also tutored by the poet Marjorie Gill.

The Project has had a positive effect on the young women taking part, as they say themselves:

  • 'I feel safe, I feel heard. I feel helped.'
  • 'Before I was alone and shy, but now I can speak to other people, ask for help in college and give my opinion.'
  • 'Before I didn’t know how to express myself or make myself understood by others. Now I can tell people about my problems and struggles and that makes me feel better.'

On Saturday, 24 March, 2pm, the Project's participants along with Marjorie and Belinda will perform work they created as part of the poetry and song writing workshops. The culmination of all their hard work should not be missed!
