The Thursday Post: 'Effortless Zen' - Memories of Alexander Hutchison

The poetry community was sad to learn this week of the death of Alexander Hutchison. 'Sandy' to friends, he was not only a poet of considerable talent - recognised last year when he won the Saltire Prize for Best Collection of Poetry - he gave a great deal of encouragement to young poets. Today we publish three more memories of Sandy.

Alexander Hutchison 1943-2015

The poetry community in Scotland and beyond was saddened and shocked to hear this week of the death of the poet Alexander Hutchison. His friend and fellow poet August Kleinzahler has penned a tribute for the SPL blog.

Tessa Ransford (1938 – 2015)

Tessa Ransford, the founding director of the Scottish Poetry Library, has died of cancer aged 77. Ken Cockburn, who worked at the Library 1996-2004, the Edinburgh Makar Christine De Luca, and Director of Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland Donald Smith have written these tributes to a creative spirit and outstanding cultural presence.

Angus Dunn - A Tribute

We were sad to learn of the death from motor neurone disease of the Highland poet and writer Angus Dunn, on 27 August. This is an appreciation by his friend Ian Stephen.

Elizabeth Burns - A Tribute

Elizabeth Burns, author of four collections of poetry including the tender and light-filled Held, has died after many years of living with cancer. Her friend and poet Gerrie Fellowes pays tribute to Burns.
