The poetry community in Scotland and beyond was saddened and shocked to hear this week of the death of the poet Alexander Hutchison. His friend and fellow poet August Kleinzahler has penned a tribute for the SPL blog.

Tessa Ransford, the founding director of the Scottish Poetry Library, has died of cancer aged 77. Ken Cockburn, who worked at the Library 1996-2004, the Edinburgh Makar Christine De Luca , and Director of Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland Donald Smith have written these tributes to a creative spirit and outstanding cultural presence.
We were sad to learn of the death from motor neurone disease of the Highland poet and writer Angus Dunn, on 27 August. This is an appreciation by his friend Ian Stephen, adapted from his foreword to High Country, a collection of Angus’s poems that has just been published by Sandstone Press.
Elizabeth Burns, author of four collections of poetry including the tender and light-filled Held, has died after many years of living with cancer.
